It’s so exciting to hear that you are pregnant. We hope that you are feeling great but.........sometimes as pregnancy progresses the physical and hormonal changes that your body goes through can lead to pain and stiffness.
Common physical symptoms can be:
- Lower back pain
- Pelvic pain (also known as symphysis pubis dysfunction)
- Carpal tunnel
- Rib pain
- Neck and shoulder tension which can sometimes cause headaches
- Fallen arches (flat feet)
If this is the case there is a lot Osteopathy can do to help.
Osteopathic treatment is a safe and gentle approach to these conditions and consists of deep soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation and manipulation.
At the Ilkley Osteopathic Practice we have been taking care of pregnant women and their families since 2001. All Osteopaths are able to offer pre and post natal treatment but both Louise Judd and Robbie Grech-Cini have taken post graduate study at the London School of Osteopathy in pre and post natal osteopathy. Robbie has a special interest in paediatric osteopathy and treats babies using the cranial technique
Remember it is not just during pregnancy that you might need treatment but post pregnancy your spine may need re aligning and the ‘physicality’ of parenting can be very challenging up until your child is about 4 years old!
What about the baby?
Generally babies cope very well with the process of birth but it can be difficult and complications may occur which may result in a retained pattern of tension through the baby’s head, neck and body. Osteopathy offers an extremely gentle manual approach known as the cranial technique
We would love to help you through this exciting period in your life, not only with hands on treatment, care and plenty of advice!
